Ok, this is not my best moment, but still...
I work on a golf course. I was out of work for a while, dealing with my heart issues, but in the last couple of weeks, I've begun to get back into my normal routine. Some days are more successful than others.
It was really too soon when I went back to work. I wasn't feeling up to it. I was amazed at how things had disintegrated in our maintenance building. I got the feeling that if I had stayed out another couple of weeks, no one would ever know that I had been there. I saw my presence disappearing. Everything was a mess. The tools were in disarray, the equipment was in dire need of maintenance and there was a new guy my boss had hired to help out for the rest of the summer, who I had never met. He had no clue as to who I was or what I expected from him.
I over did it on my first day back. There was so much to do. It felt like no one else cared.
I've been in this business for 17 years. There's a guy on my crew who has been doing this for a year. He's a world class kiss ass and bull shitter. He puts on a front when he feels it will benefit him. He lies. He plays head games. And he wants to be in charge SO bad. I felt like if I had stayed out a little longer, he would have ended up with my job, all the while saying what a great guy I was and how he was just filling in for me until I got back on my feet, etc.
Well guess what, mother fucker, I'm back!
This guy, "B" I'll call him, has a horrible, frantic, negative energy. Obviously, not everyone recognizes it. But, I do. He has a violent past. He's angry and full of hate - but boy, can he be charismatic. Most people probably think he's a great guy.
And that brings me to today.
At the end of the day, when he brought his tractor in, he told "G" (a fellow employee) that a golfer had come up to him, on the course, and told him he was doing a great job and that he was a hard worker. He said that he rarely tipped anyone, but when he did, he tipped big. Then the man said that god had told him to give "B" some money. The golfer gave him $400.00!
Now, whether this was an out-right lie or it really happened - either way - I find the whole thing rather disturbing.
Then, "B" said that that wasn't all he got today. The new guy my boss hired while I was out, bought a new TV and he was giving "B" his old 36" flat screen.
I know, I know, it sounds like pure jealousy on my part. But, why is "god" rewarding that asshole?!

Some of my paintings.
I've been playing around with my camera and thought I might get some shots of some of my paintings to post. Kinda brighten things up around here.
The trick to shooting them, I've found, is natural sunlight. Even so, the tints don't always (almost never) come out exactly right. I guess it's good enough to blog. At least the viewer can get an idea of what I was going for. I guess.
It's a good thing I pulled them out of storage, because they were beginning to stick together, the way they were stacked. And, worst of all, mold was beginning to grow on them. They cleaned up pretty good, but now I have to figure out a better way to store them.
Warning: There will more art postings as soon as I take more photos.

I think too much.
I was thinking about how I'm like a moth attracted to a flame. At least, I assume, the moth doesn't know any better. I have no excuse, except for the primitive urges at the core of my brain. Then I began to wonder about what it is that makes us human. Is it the ability, or the desire, to combat those animalistic urges - to "rise above" them? Some people spend their entire lives fighting that battle. They consider it a noble cause. Religions are constructed around these concepts.
I have to wonder if a life built on denying your primal instincts is any kind of life at all. It seems that, for some, being human isn't really the goal - instead, the notion of humanity is betrayed in a quest for some kind of divinity. I mean, who are these people fooling? We're animals.
I've heard it said that artists create their own moral universes. But then everyone says, "Oh, you know, those wacky artists.."
Someone else said, "To be human is to suffer." I think, with our struggle to come to terms with this crazy dichotomy, that sums it up pretty succinctly.
"Meanwhile," as Marc Bolan said, "I'm still thinking..."

Husbands and Wives.
I watched this today, for, oh, I don't know, maybe the 100th time. Amazing cast. Incredible performances. Great story. Creative camera work/editing. Woody is a genius. One of my all time favorite films.
A view of my desk (left corner), where all of the magick originates...
I was just messing around with my relatively new digital camera. I still can't take a decent picture with it. I'm always out of focus. I used to be pretty good with the 110 cameras. Way back in prehistoric times.

My heart (update).
I'm feeling a little better, right now. I just thought I should mention this. I'm going to relax tomorrow, watch some Woody Allen and try to get back to a normal routine at work next week.
This is not much of an entry, but I want to note it when I'm feeling ok as well as when things are bad. Hopefully, there will be more entries in this positive category in the future.

My heart (update).
I didn't feel well at all last night. I woke up at about 4 this morning, then fell asleep again around 7. I felt OK when I woke up, for the second time, around 9. But as soon as I got up and started doing things, I began to feel really bad. My arms got tight and numb and I began to feel sick and dizzy. Then my head started to hurt and tingle. Keep in mind, I rarely get head aches.
I took a 'pirin, relaxed on the couch, watched some Rachel Zoe and listened to Robyn Hitchcock's live "I Often Dream of Trains (in New York)" CD (thanks Chuck). I am a little better (well enough to come in here and write this post), but not much.
I have laundry, dishes, general house work and grocery shopping to do. I just feel like going back to bed.
It's so funny how everything changes in a matter of minutes.
I'm trying to meet someone online, but this is a horrible time to do it. No one wants to come close to a physical, therefor emotional, train wreck like me. And I can dig it. It's a double drag. Hell, I'm a drag to myself.

My hands photos idea.
I want to do a group of Hi Def photos of my hands (with a tripod, perhaps), just like they are: scarred, banged up, with tortured nails and age. (Hint, hint to my photographer friend Chuck...) This is just a test shot with my decidedly Un-Hi Def web cam.
April 15, 1979 (Easter).
I went to Russell's house last Friday (the 13th).We always have good conversations, yet they differ in content from those we have when D'Arcy is with us. D'arcy said that when he and Russell talk, it's the same way.
I had not been to Russell's in quite a while. I couldn't believe that Cathy (his sister) has not had her baby yet. It seems like so long ago when she told me it was due in a couple of weeks.
In the midst of one of our mind boggling discussions, Russell said, "You go so far and then you reach blah." Blah. I have written that word many times, dating back to the 7th grade, and yet I never really stopped to consider what it was I was trying to get across. Russell phrased it so beautifully, so succinctly, and I realized what I should have known ( and, I guess, may have known, deep down) and it brought to light the concept of "blah". It is the point where infinity takes over and it becomes futile to try to follow.

Something to think about...
This is a page from my high school newspaper, which I, and my friend Tommy, started. One of my contributions, as a writer, was this collection of poems titled "Excerpts from the concept of 'Theme Furor.'" The paper devoted an entire page to me and someone came up with the headline, "Something to think about..." I guess it was a slow news week. So, anyway, here it is, in all of its typo fraught glory. Enjoy!
(It should be noted that this is maybe the first public appearance of "Mr. Sun" - a "trademark" image that has survived throughout the years, popping up where-ever needed. Soon to be a tattoo.)

October 4, 1978
I talked with Russell tonight. He just came by unexpectedly. I was sitting in the "dining room," watching some stupid TV movie, thinking this was my night. It made me feel good to see him. I know I can discuss things with him and he'll understand.
To my surprise, some things came up that I had been worrying about, and it turns out, he had also. Things like the changing relationships at school and the future: After high school - what then?
I thought about Russell today - how he was my friend. When he came by, he confirmed all of that. I truly believe he is my friend.
(We spoke of D'Arcy - how he seemed so distant, not himself, so to speak. What will happen now...?)

Written on October 2, 1978.
I suddenly realized that after this school year, there would be no one to ask questions to, or to get approvals from, for work that I had done. There would be no one to listen to my ambitions and dreams of the future, because the future will have already come. It would then be upon me.
I would never have so much idle time to spend with my friends, any more, if I have any friends left. They all seem to be getting into their own lives now. They're becoming so distant.
I guess I'm a misfit.
I thought about suicide today and decided it was a practical trip - not like all of the downing propaganda "they" hand you. You know, "the coward's way out," etc.
When I get out of school, I guess that will be the end of my reading, writing and music. I must be a hippie in the wrong decade or something. I was telling them and then I began telling myself, "I won't be like everyone else. I won't settle down in a double-wide, with a wife, a baby and a CB radio. I just won't do it." Soon, I began asking myself, "Will I settle down in a double-wide, with a wife and a...?" That's when I knew that I was gone.
Oh well, suicide... I'll put that away for awhile. Maybe, in a few years, I'll take it back out.

"I listen while it rains..." From "Peoms (sic)." Written when I was 13 or 14.
I listen while it rains...
At 4 am, I light a candle and listen by the window. The candle burns dimly, yet seems bright against the blackness outside the window, where it sits on the sill.
The thought of clear, cool water dripping from the roof, splashing on the green leaves of summer.
Moths begin gathering on the screen. First one, he dances a bit, then another, smaller than the first. He flutters about. Then more join them.
The sprinkle is over. Now it's just the few drops falling from the trees, the moths on my screen and the frogs.
Author's note: The original poem has a drop of candle wax, from 35 (or so) years ago, covering the first half of the word "gathering." Candles belonged to a small group of simple things that I thought were magical, in those days. I guess part of me still feels that way.

My heart (update).
Ok, so I've done a lot of whining on here, but hey, this blog is like my diary. And no one is going to read this anyway, except for my friend Chuck, and hopefully, he'll be understanding. The point is, I've been bitching and moaning - and I know that - but, I think it's important to make note of any progress or improvements in my condition.
I went to work today and made it through the entire day. I wasn't at my best, but I got through. That's an achievement in my book. So, HOORAY! for me.
How's that for being positive?

My heart (update).
I'm waiting to see the cardiologist at the end of September. I feel as if valuable time is being squandered. Like I need something done right now. There's something amiss with my heart, something amiss within the core of my being. I'm a house of cards - there's an emptiness at the center of my structure - and it could all come tumbling down at any moment. That's a frightening feeling.
Everyone says "Relax," "Take it easy," "Don't over do it," and they mean well, but with my condition, it doesn't matter what I do. When it comes time to happen, it's gonna happen. I have no control over it. There are really no steps to take to prevent an occurrence, to lessen the risk, other than the medication.
The new meds are making me feel awful. I'm tired, sluggish, dizzy, shaky, jumpy and I can't sleep or think clearly. I'm a mess. I'm hoping it's just the meds making me feel this way. If so, it could be that after my body adjusts to them, I'll feel better. But, I'm not overly confident that that's going to be the case. I think this may be my new reality.
I keep a phone within reach at all times. If I walk from one side of a room to the other, I take the phone. Those who know me, know I'm not a phone person, but, you know, it's the new reality I alluded to.
I'm re-reading books that I love. Re-watching movies that mean something to me. I just watched "Manhattan" for the umpteenth time. Boy, that Mariel Hemingway breaks my heart every time...

Olonso (epilogue)
As the year ended, with Capricorn (Floyd), Amanda and D.CapricornC. (Debbie) gone, I shook hands with Mr.C - the man who, to me, seemed to know something more. He was a vegetarian, an actor, singer, pianist, dancer. He had lived in N.Y.C. He had the nerve to wear an ear ring (gasp!) in the early 70s in the backwoods of my home town. He was my teacher and my friend.
Mr.C said, "You were the prize." I looked at him, puzzled. "You were the prize in the Cracker Jack box." he smiled.
I only talked to him once since. It was when my father died. He called and it really helped me. I would like to see him again.
(Author's note:
I actually saw Mr.C several times after writing this. In fact, I saw him a couple of years ago, under rather odd circumstances - nearly 35 years after Olonso was written.
Mr.C once told me that he thought it was cool the way I spelled "Olonso." I thought I was spelling "Alonzo." I never confessed I didn't do it on purpose...)

Dear Olonso,
This may be the last time I'll write you. I'm not sure.
I think I'll probably finish up the week with you and then stop writing you. Then maybe, after a while, I'll start writing you again.
I hope I can get my book ready to publish before March of next year. I have not been able to get up with Libra in order to get it together.
Well, gotta go!

Dear Olonso,
The other day I gave Libra Aries' key to find mine. A day ago, knowing that I had lost it on the football field, I found my key at home, where I had looked thousands of times. The key was right in front of me in a cabinet. I told Libra, but I haven't told Aries yet.
Well, I have to go. Good bye.

Hello Olonso,
I've missed you.
Well, I've just finished a 4 page poem and I think I'll call it "(Worlds)".
We have a test tomorrow in Ms. Spiliotis' room.
Capricorn is going to move to Southport soon. That's bad.
Libra makes me feel so inferior that I hate to see him. But, I have to give him Aries' key to find mine...
Well, I'll leave you with this Aries/Virgo/Capricorn/Sagittarius saying: "Nothing has to be something in order to be nothing."
(Author's note:
The rough composition of "(Worlds)" was 4 pages, in rather large handwriting. I had been reading Thomas Moore and was astonished at poetry that was more than a page long.)

...Libra said that he and G.LibraD. were at a charcoal circle on the grave of a girl who they think is trying to possess someone. Libra sat within the circle and G.LibraD. got real cold and started shaking and staring at Libra with a weird look in his eyes. He ran at the circle and tried to get in, but Libra held him off with some kind of force field. There were 2 bystanders and one had a cross, trying to be funny. He got scared and threw the cross at G.LibraD. I don't know what happened then.

Dear Olonso,
The earth is only a speck of dust
In the eye of one who knows it not.
As the green grass bends with the summer rain
The thought of you, I want to see you again.
As the snow gracefully falls to the brown grass below
I think of your life, very much as the snow
Falling to brighten a sky of dark grey
But then I turn around and you've melted away
Going to stay, forever and a day
Until you come back again.
(Mr.C comments:
Make copies of these, if you please, for me. Thanks!)
Dear Olonso,
The earth is only a speck of dust
In the eye of one who knows it not.
As the green grass bends with the summer rain
The thought of you, I want to see you again.

Dear Olonso,
I had a vision, on the 29th of December, about Libra. He was reading something. On January 1st, I had another vision. It was a very famous man who lived sometime in the 1400's. He was reading as Libra was. Then I saw Libra reading again. I think he has been reincarnated.
On the 29th, I also had a dream of going to my uncle's house to borrow a "food tube". Looking in the cabinet that was pointed out to me, I saw a violin. My cousin said he played it. I told him I'd like to be able to play violin and he said that he knew. He said my friend (he said the name incorrectly, but I knew he was talking about Aries2) had told him. He also said that Taurus, Libra's brother, had been copying out of my journal. (You, Olonso!) He showed me some of it...

Dear Olonso,
Today we go to art class...
I love D.CapricornC. a lot...
I believe what Aries said about us needing a conversation.
Why go into details? I mean, it could go on forever. And why teach someone something that other people believe, the way they see it?
I don't care about completing things anymore.
(Mr.C comments:
Think about it. Sometimes I feel the same way, but I know I must complete things to complete my life.)

Dear Olonso,
I had a dream, over the weekend, about Aries. He was dead. Everyone I saw told me he was dead. I looked all over for him. Capricorn, who has always seemed kind of jealous of Aries, for some reason, told me that he was glad that Aries was dead. He said that he had gotten rid of someone who was always messing up his life.
I had almost gone crazy, when I saw Aries, alive, sitting on some bleachers at school. Wow, I was glad to see him! That dream was so real.
I thought about Libra and had an urge to see him, but I decided I didn't need Cult II.
(Author's note:
Cult II was Libra's "coven.")

We practiced for our play today.
Floyd M. came back after 3 days absence.
Aries said that D.CapricornC. was trying to get me on her side against him. I don't think D.CapricornC. would do something like that.. What I think is really happening is that Aries is doing things that I'm against, and I thought he was against, and he is using D.CapricornC. as a cover-up.

Dear Olonso,
I don't understand Aries. He was so against things like smoking, drinking and drugs, and now I hear he is smoking again. He is also acting very immaturely.
Then there's D.CapricornC., who tells me all sorts of things that don't make sense. It's all so confusing.
Then there's Aries2, who is also confusing me...
Well, I can't begin to understand them until I understand myself - and I'm working on that.

Dear Olonso,
I just threw away something that had become a part of me. I guess it's good that I did, because my beliefs were changing because of it - like unconsciously. The item was the rock Aries gave me. I was becoming afraid of the powers of it, so, under the supervision of Aries, I threw it away. Although the other 2 rocks I carry don't mean that much to me, I'll throw them away, too...

The meeting on the way, I hear the screaming cry

Through a window's view, one night
I saw around a candle's light
A mystic group, whose gathering pertains
To the grotesque Prince of Darkness.
